Bushes and shrubs include camellias, crape myrtles,
Encore azaleas, firebush, yellow bells, and Knockout roses. The
camellias were primarily obtained from local hybridizers although a few
came from the mulch. Encore azaleas, firebush (hamelia patens), Tecoma stans
(yellow bells) and Knockout roses were planted from one-gallon containers
from local nurseries while the dwarf crape myrtles were
planted from small seedlings obtained from the hybridizer.
The standard crape myrtles all came from seedlings that grew
from the mulch and were transplanted to form the boundary hedge
around the gardens. The camellias bloom from December through
March. Crape myrtles bloom from May into late summer. Encore
azaleas and Knockout roses bloom throughout spring and summer.
